What to Expect During Your Session
Michael Stier, Structural Elements® provider and licensed acupuncturist, will begin with a thorough evaluation to understand your health history, goals, and structural patterns. From there, he will create a customized plan that blends acupuncture with targeted bodywork.
After an assessment of your alignment, treatment begins with massage and cupping. After initial bodywork, fine needles are gently placed at key points and left in place for 20–30 minutes, allowing your body time to reset. During this time, your body is warmed by a heat lamp, and the lighting is dim to create a deeply calming and restorative experience.
At Structural Elements®, we utilize acupuncture not only to relieve pain but also to help regulate the autonomic nervous system. When the parasympathetic response is engaged during treatment, your body enters a state of calm, where inflammation decreases, circulation improves, and healing becomes possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does acupuncture hurt?
The needles are hair-thin, and most people don’t feel anything at all other than the tap that occurs when putting the needle in.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Wear comfortable clothing and bring a pair of shorts to change into during your treatment. For women, we provide a gown or you can wear a sports bra if that is more comfortable.
How many sessions will I need?
Even one session will be beneficial to you. Depending on the health issue you are addressing, we typically recommend once-per-week appointments for 4-6 weeks, then spreading them out based on how well you are maintaining your alignment. After that, we recommend a monthly appointment for maintenance.
Does insurance cover treatment?
We are a cash-based practice, which means we don’t bill insurance directly. However, we provide detailed receipts, also known as “superbills,” that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. We also accept FSA and HSA card payments.
